How I can help you

Some of the approaches I follow and practice

The person-centred approach

The person-centred approach to counselling, developed by Carl Rogers, focuses on creating a supportive, non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions freely. It emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence (genuineness) from the therapist, allowing clients to find their own solutions and personal growth. The approach trusts in individuals' capacity for self-awareness and self-improvement.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented form of therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviours. It helps individuals recognize how their thoughts influence their emotions and actions, teaching them practical skills to challenge and reframe unhelpful thinking. CBT is commonly used to treat anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.

Psychodynamic therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is a form of talk therapy that focuses on unconscious processes, past experiences, and childhood influences that shape current behaviour and emotions. Rooted in Freud’s theories, it helps individuals gain insight into unresolved conflicts and patterns in relationships. The therapist-client relationship plays a key role in exploring emotions, defence mechanisms, and deep-seated issues to promote self-awareness and lasting change.

Inner child work

Inner child work is a therapeutic approach that focuses on healing unresolved emotions, traumas, and unmet needs from childhood. It involves reconnecting with and nurturing the “inner child,” the part of the subconscious that holds childhood experiences and emotions. Techniques may include visualization, journaling, self-compassion, and dialogue with the inner child to foster healing, self-acceptance, and emotional growth. This approach is often used in trauma recovery, self-esteem building, and emotional regulation.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as made up of different "parts," each with its own emotions, thoughts, and roles. Developed by Richard Schwartz, IFS helps individuals identify and heal wounded parts while strengthening the "Self," which is the core, compassionate, and wise aspect of a person. By understanding and harmonizing these internal parts, individuals can reduce inner conflict, heal trauma, and achieve greater emotional balance.

Polyvagal Theory

Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, explains how the autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulates emotional and physiological states, particularly in response to stress and social engagement. It identifies three states: **ventral vagal (social engagement, safety, connection), sympathetic (fight-or-flight response),** and **dorsal vagal (shutdown, freeze response).** The theory emphasizes how our nervous system adapts to perceived threats and how regulating it through breathwork, movement, and social connection can improve emotional resilience and well-being. It is widely applied in trauma therapy and nervous system regulation.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to achieve a trance-like state, where the subconscious mind becomes more open to positive suggestions. It is used to help individuals change unwanted behaviours, manage stress, reduce anxiety, and address issues like phobias, trauma, and addictions. By accessing deeper mental processes, hypnotherapy can promote healing, self-awareness, and personal transformation.
